Policies and FAQs

 

Please Read the Following Carefully.

Deposits & Payments

  • A 50% non-refundable & non-transferable deposit is required for all orders at the time an order is placed. The remaining balance is due 2 weeks prior to pickup/delivery.

  • Orders are NOT considered confirmed until the required deposit payment has been made.

  • Orders are NOT considered finalized until the final payment of the remaining balance has been made. If final payment is not made 2 weeks prior to pickup/delivery, the order will be subject to cancellation.

  • If you are placing a "last minute order" (less than 2 weeks prior to pickup/delivery), the full balance of the order will be due to confirm & finalize the order.

Cancellations

  • If an order is cancelled MORE THAN 2 WEEKS PRIOR to a scheduled pickup/delivery date:

    • The 50% deposit is non-refundable & non-transferable.

    • The remaining balance of the order may be transferred to a new order.

  • If an order is cancelled LESS THAN 2 WEEKS PRIOR to a scheduled pickup/delivery date:

    • The full payment of the order is considered non-refundable & non-transferable.

  • Covid-Related Cancellations are subject to the same policies noted herein. No exceptions will be made.

NOTE: Given the current climate, it’s understood that unforeseeable obstacles and/or illnesses can occur that may prompt you to cancel your order. Please understand that significant time and money are invested into each order well before your scheduled pickup/delivery date, and in some cases, work has already begun. Additionally, last-minute cancellations take away an open spot that could've otherwise gone to someone else.

Order Changes

  • The final date for any changes of size, flavors, or design is 2 weeks prior to your scheduled pickup/delivery date. Any changes requested after this date cannot be guaranteed and may be subject to additional pricing.

 

Delivery Fees

  • All deliveries are subject to a delivery fee starting at $25 + mileage/tolls based on the location of the delivery.

    • Please Note: Tiered cake delivery starts at $50 + mileage/tolls.

 

Liability

  • Once an order is picked up or delivered, I am NOT responsible for any damages that may occur.

  • If you decide to forego delivery & pick up the order yourself, you assume all liability for the condition of the order once it leaves my possession.

    • You will be given instructions on how to carry, transport, and store your cake upon pick up.

  • PLEASE Keep in mind that cakes are very fragile and sensitive to temperature. Damage can be incurred if not handled properly – such as cracks, broken toppers, smudges, melted frosting, etc. 

 

Transportation Guidelines:

  • Cakes need to be transported on a FLAT surface! This means the floor of your car (floor space on passenger side or trunk area if you feel comfortable having it out of your sight). If you don't have floor space, plan on packing a large towel or blanket to push into the L-shaped crease of a car seat to create a level & secure surface for the cake to sit upon. The cake should be sitting completely flat! Secure the cake as best you can for safe travel!

  • Do NOT travel with your cake placed on an angled car seat OR on the lap of a passenger.

  • In warm seasons, it's extremely important that you keep your car very cool before, during and after pickup.​

  • Drive safely and SLOWLY. This is especially important if you're transporting a tiered cake. ​

  • All of my tiered cakes are built with an internal support system consisting of strong wooden dowels and plastic support "straws" to help ensure structural stability.

  • If you are concerned about transporting your cake, please contact me at least 24 hours prior to pick-up and I will assist you with any questions/concerns you may have as you prepare to transport your cake.

 

Refunds

  • I dedicate significant time to planning and executing customer orders. Due to the time-intensive, custom nature of my work, I will not provide cash refunds under any circumstances, except:

    • Should an unforeseeable event occur that prevents me from fulfilling my obligation to complete your order, I will refund your payment in full. 

  • Refunds requested due to decorating style, writing, color shade, or general design will not be honored after your cake has been picked up (by you or your representative) or after I have delivered your cake and departed from the venue.

  • If you are unhappy with your order, please contact me immediately via email. I'm more than happy to talk through your experience and identify a resolution!

  • Creative design is subjective. No refunds/credits will be issued for that reason.

  • You may provide a photograph for inspiration - HOWEVER, I make no claims for exact duplication of work done by other cake decorators.​

  • Please note that colors appear differently on all devices. I will color-match to the best of my ability but make no claims that I can create an exact duplicate.​

FAQs:

Where are you located?

I am a home-based baker located in West Chester, PA. My address will appear on your invoice at payment & will be provided upon order confirmation for pickup purposes!

 

What are your hours?

I am a home-based baker and do not have set hours. I work on an as-needed basis as orders are requested. That said, feel free to reach out with orders, questions, inquiries at any time & I will respond as quickly as possible!

**Please note - I am a home based baker. Any/all face-to-face consultations MUST be requested AND scheduled in advance. Drop-in visits are not available. Thank you for your understanding. **

 

​I submitted an Order Inquiry Form and haven’t received a response.

Please allow for up to 3 BUSINESS DAYS to receive a response. For example, if you submitted an Order Inquiry Form on a Friday, you may not receive a response until Wednesday. 

Do you have ready-made products for sale?

No. All of my baked goods are custom made and made to order. As an in-home baker, I do not keep any inventory on hand for day-of orders and/or tastings.

 

Do you offer Gluten Free items?

Yes! GF Cakes and Cupcakes are available upon request (subject to additional pricing).

 

Do you offer Vegan items?

Yes! Vegan Cakes and Cupcakes are available upon request (subject to additional pricing).

 

How far in advance should I place my order?

I ask that clients please place your orders 3+ weeks in advance. Due to the volume of requests for custom orders, I cannot guarantee that I can honor your request without ample notice. 

 

What if I need a last minute cake?

If you need a cake ASAP (within a few days), please don't hesitate to ask. If I can - I will accommodate you. 

 

Do you offer Cake Tastings?

Yes. My cake tastings are prepared as "Take Home Tastings". If you're interested in ordering a set, please contact me at Allegra@cakenbakeshop.com to place your order.

 

How should I store my cake?

Cakes iced in buttercream do not need refrigeration if they are to be served shortly after pickup/delivery. If you are picking up a cake on a day prior to an event, plan on refrigerating the cake until you are ready to serve. I recommend removing the cake from the refrigerator 1-2 hours prior to the event to let the cake gradually return to room temperature prior to serving.

 

**Cakes with fruit filling and/or cream cheese frosting must be refrigerated. **
